Using Music at home
When participating in music, children are more able and motivated to engage in
learning, and have ample opportunities to observe and imitate others. Music-based
experiences can capture multiple areas of development in the one context. Using
music in everyday routines and activities can therefore support a child’s learning and development.
Ideas to try:
- Song singing to match daily routines eg dressing, washing, eating
- Song singing to assist transitions and promote understanding
- Action songs that are repetitive and allow opportunities for modelling and copying
- Make music together with musical instruments (have a look at Kmart online, use pots & pans or rice inside tupperware)
- Include choice making opportunities
- Search youtube or kidspot for homemade musical instruments eg
Cereal box guitar, paper towel tube rainmaker, plastic egg maracas & toilet paper tube kazoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWJALMLziOQ&feature=youtu.be
