Using Music at home 

When participating in music, children are more able and motivated to engage in learning, and have ample opportunities to observe and imitate others. Music-based experiences can capture multiple areas of development in the one context. Using music in everyday routines and activities can therefore support a child’s learning and development.

Ideas to try:

  • Song singing to match daily routines eg dressing, washing, eating

  • Song singing to assist transitions and promote understanding

  • Action songs that are repetitive and allow opportunities for modelling and copying

  • Make music together with musical instruments (have a look at Kmart online, use pots & pans or rice inside tupperware)

  • Include choice making opportunities

  • Search youtube or kidspot for homemade musical instruments

Music Listening: Spotify Playlists

These playlists contain a number of songs regularly chosen by clients or therapists in music therapy sessions. To access these playlists, type the title of the playlist into the search bar on the Spotify app. You can listen to the playlists without purchasing a Spotify account.

  • CMTC Early Childhood

This playlist features nursery rhymes, songs from playschool and artists such as The Wiggles and Peter Comb.

  • CMTC Pop

This playlist is an eclectic mix of songs from current popular songs on the radio, songs from films and some classic hits.*
