Using Music at home
When participating in music, children are more able and motivated to engage in learning, and have ample opportunities to observe and imitate others. Music-based experiences can capture multiple areas of development in the one context. Using music in everyday routines and activities can therefore support a child’s learning and development.
Ideas to try:
Song singing to match daily routines eg dressing, washing, eating
Song singing to assist transitions and promote understanding
Action songs that are repetitive and allow opportunities for modelling and copying
Make music together with musical instruments (have a look at Kmart online, use pots & pans or rice inside tupperware)
Include choice making opportunities
Search youtube or kidspot for homemade musical instruments
eg Cereal box guitar, paper towel tube rainmaker, plastic egg maracas & toilet paper tube kazoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWJALMLziOQ&feature=youtu.be
